Year 5 and 6
We are enjoying starting this term with a focus on story writing and the use of dialogue within them to show character and move along the action.

The children have been very engaged and creative as they write and edit, making sure to engage their reader in the opening paragraph and build the suspense.
Other learning this term will include cross curricular work on rivers and coasts and using cams to build our own moving toy. Linking with our whole school values theme, we are further developing our understanding of British Values.
Our regular PE days this half term are Tuesday & Wednesday. PE kits should include: water bottle, white t shirt with school logo, blue or black shorts, sweatshirt, tracksuit bottoms & trainers; please ensure these are all named.
Music is held every Wednesday so please ensure instruments are in school.
Children have been given a homework book which, together with their reading book & yellow reading record, should be brought to school every day & taken home every afternoon.
All children are expected to read for 10 mins each night (either from the Reading Plus website, their school reading book or a book they are enjoying at home) and record this in their reading record books. Since we are working on reading for meaning & developing the children’s skills in using inference & deduction, it would be very valuable if you could ask them questions to check they understand what they have read.
Please check you have received a pack to support home learning of spellings. The Spelling Frame website is also a great way to practise spellings.
Children will have daily maths homework. This may be maths passports, times tables, games or questions which should take approximately 10-15 mins. Year 6 pupils will be set specific pages from their new SATs revision books. If you are able to support your child by checking this homework with them & helping to work through any errors, this would be really useful. The children will check & mark the homework themselves the next day with the rest of the class.
Tuck shop: Wednesday
Tuck shop is open at morning break. 40p will buy a biscuit & juice. You may bring fruit any day to eat at break.
Please bring your reading record and Homework book. It would really help if all children had a water bottle in school.
