Year 1 and 2
This half term our topic will be Plants.
Our English will begin by focusing on the book ‘Tattybogle’ by Sandra Horn and we will be focusing on writing an adventure story for a scarecrow. We will also look at poetry. As always we will continue to focus on sentence structure and vocabulary development.
In Maths, we will be focusing on addition and subtraction, capacity and weight. We will also begin to look at time.
The role play area in our classroom is set up as a garden centre so the children can act out the different roles whilst applying their knowledge of money from last half term. Why not visit one?
In Science, we will practice thinking scientifically, observing and recording whilst focus on a range of common plants and growing some ourselves!

PE in Spring Term
Monday and Thursday afternoons (Please bring outdoor kit)
Children are expected to be working on practising targets on their Maths Passport and reading at least 3 times a week. We will continue to award reading raffle tickets to those children who read 3 times a week at home.
Reading to/with your child is such a rewarding experience and crucial in your child’s development. By reading books to your children, you can increase their listening skill and you help them stretch their imagination and thinking. This is extremely valuable to children in their writing.
Year 1 children will be provided with phonics flash cards, it will be beneficial if your child could spend sometime each week practicing each sound.
Tuck shop will be on a Wednesday. (20p for a drink and 20p for a homemade biscuit).
Please ensure that your child has a named water bottle in school each day. We do not have a water fountain in our classroom and the children are often thirsty after playtimes and PE lessons. Thank you for your co-operation with this.
Start and End of the Day
The conservatory door opens at 8.45 am each morning and the register is taken at 8.55 am. At the end of the day children are taken back to the conservatory door to be handed over to you at 3.20 pm.
