Year 1 and 2
This half term our topic is 'Toys.' We are going to be designing and making our own toy, creating sketch drawings of old toys, finding out about toys from around the world and also how toys have changed over time.
In our English we are going to be linking our work to Toy Story in order to produce some creative writing, thinking about what our toys might get up to when we are at school. Later on in the half term we will be using the book 'Dogger' by Shirley Hughes to think about our favourite toys, what would happen if we lost them and making 'Wanted' posters. We will also be creating some poetry with a Toy theme.
Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Please bring your NAMED PE kit including a tracksuit or jumper and joggers as well as shorts and t-shirt on both these days.
We have given every child a reading record to write in any reading that your child does at home or at school. All children have been given a reading book, which they are free to change themselves when they have read it. They should be reading at home at least 4 times a week. Children’s reading will be assessed regularly and they will change colours accordingly.
Maths homework is in the form of a Maths Passport. Each child has a passport which includes a series of Maths facts to learn. Children will be assessed within school and a new passport will be given once the challenges are all signed off by their teacher. Please make sure that Maths Passports are in school on a Wednesday as we will use our maths session on this day to work on them and sign off any targets met.
All children have a spelling pack, which will include a list of Year 1 and 2 common words and games to play at home. Although there will be no formal spelling test each week it is still important to practise these at home. We will provide a homework book to record any Maths passport and spelling practise.
Please continue to encourage your child to do their homework as it supports and consolidates the learning we are doing in the classroom. It is important that it is completed each week.
Tuck shop will be on a Wednesday. (20p for a drink and 20p for a homemade biscuit).
Please ensure that your child has a named water bottle in school each day. We do not have a water fountain in our classroom and the children are often thirsty after playtimes and PE lessons. Thank you for your co-operation with this.
Start and End of the Day
