Sport & PE

SportOur federation is rich in sporting tradition and encourages the children to participate in all sports.

St Cuthbert’s has been awarded the Gold School Games Award and Fountains Earth currently holds the Silver School Games Award. These awards recognise our participation in competitive sporting events through the Harrogate Sports Parnership, the range of after school clubs we offer and the way in which physical education is taught in school.

Physical Education

Physical Education takes place twice a week and all children participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor sports.  Both schools have large sports fields where a variety of sport such as the annual sports day, rounders, athletics, running and much more takes place. In Key Stage Two, both schools come together for PE on Wednesday afternoons.

Swimming

The importance of being able to swim ensure that’s the children become competent, confident swimmers with a strong desire to continue swimming and maintain a healthy life-style in later life. 100% of our Year 6 across the federation meet the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, using a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations. Children of all ages across the federation have the opportunity to swim over the course of the academic year becoming water confident at a young age and far exceeding the national curriculum requirements

Extra-curricular sports

The children have the opportunity to take part in a wider selection of sports, outside the curriculum, provided by specialist trained teachers and coaches throughout the week.  Sports clubs are hosted in both schools and can be accessed from children at either school.

Competitive Sports

Children take part in a variety of competitions in school within the Harrogate partnership throughout the year. Our children participate as separate schools and increasingly as a Federation team. For more information about the Harrogate Sports Partnership.
