Early Years

Early YearsCurriculum

Our topic for this half term is 'Ourselves' and we shall be looking at our families, our traditions, our bodies and also the lives of others around the world.

This will be based on the book 'Only One You' by Linda Kranz and we will be thinking about what makes us special and how we can be the best we can be.

Phonics Inspire Workshop - On Wednesday 17th October at 1.30pm parents are invited to a stay and play session on Phonics including an explanation of how we teach phonics in school. Letter to follow.

Early Years Reading

Children in Reception have phonic ‘flashcards’ in their ‘To and Fro pack’. Please read the ‘flashcards’ every night with your child and remind them to bring their pack to school every day.  The cards reflect letters that your child needs to practise in order to make progress with their letter/sound correspondence.  If your child has word cards, please support them in sounding out each letter and blending them together to say the whole word.  Any ‘tricky’ word cards need to be recognised as one word and children need to just know what the word says, e.g. ‘the’.

PE is on a Tuesday morning followed by Tuck Shop and again on Thursday morning when we shall be using the bikes/scooters or Parachute Games.

School Library

We go to the school library every Wednesday and ask that you remind your child to bring their library books in on this day so we can check them in and they can borrow a different book.  We shall also be having regular visits to the local library at Nidderdale Plus.

Sharing Assembly

Sharing assemblies are on Fridays at 2.45pm in the school hall and provide
an opportunity to share the highlights from the week.  Children are proud of what they have achieved and we look forward to seeing you there.
